Belfast Communion November 2011

Belfast Communion November 2011Following on from a packed out Ulster Hall for the Hoedown as part of Belfast Music Week and a sold out Ben Howard show in The Stiff Kitten, Communion Belfast bring you another great line-up of the best new folk music.

On Friday 25th November, The Staves will be back in Belfast as their first headline show as part of a UK & Ireland tour presented by Communion. This follows The Staves’ stunning performance with James Vincent McMorrow at the Grand Opera House and appearances at Open House Festival supporting Laura Marling and Marcus Foster.

The Staves

Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor have been making music together since they were children, growing up in Watford, England. Brought up in a house that echoed to the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Beatles, singing in perfect 3-part harmony came naturally to these three sisters. Having started gigging in local pubs and cafes, The Staves are now captivating audiences on much bigger stages – earning rapturous encores with their exquisite songs of love & longing.

Guaranteed to give you goosebumps, their extraordinary intertwining voices melt the most cynical of hearts. The Staves’ “Mexico EP” will be released later this year via Atlantic Records.

The 1930s

Since the last time we had them at Communion Belfast in February, the young duo Andrew Cameron and Jonny Solari have taken the Belfast scene by storm with folky hooks, infectious melodies and captivating live shows. They recently posted their new recordings online, causing quite a stir. Now with their 1st UK wide tour being announced for February, a single release confirmed, plus album recording sessions in the diary for this winter, it’s exciting times ahead!

Paul Thomas Saunders

With his Lilac and Wisteria EP out now, Paul Thomas Saunders brings a sound which you won’t easily associate with his hometown of Leeds. Saunders pushes the boundaries of folk, with a more ethereal, psychedelic sound which we reckon you’ll fall in love with

‘He is very much the product of a Grace/Bends upbringing. Others have discerned more of a Bon Iver/Fleet Foxes sound in his work’ – The Guardian
