Communion NYC 1st of May!

New York Communion May 2011Brother (UK)
www.acidlove.net

“Under ‘Genre’ on Brother’s Facebook it unashamedly says ‘Gritpop’, and that – as in the overtly masculine, cagouled-up end of Britpop – is 100 per cent accurate (“We know Britpop is a dirty word. We don’t care”)… All Brother songs swagger with goal-round-up riffs, big choruses and lyrics of the sort that mean either nothing or everything. Mr Zane Lowe has already declared’ that if Britpop is going to make a revival, then Brother are the band to start it’. Brother have already publicly retorted that he ‘has bloody good taste’.” -www.nme.com
“They certainly have about them the swagger of a band who sense their time is coming.”-www.guardian.co.uk

Chamberlin
www.chamberlinband.com

Fresh off tour with Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, we are proud to host Chamberlin at Communion. Hailing from Vermont, Chamberlin often times are known as, “the biggest band from Vermont that no one there has ever really heard of” as they nearly, immediately started touring, traveling, and taking on the road. Their debut album, Bitter Blood has just been released this past March and, in our humble opinion, is fantastic!

The Grownup Noise
www.myspace.com/thegrownupnoise

Since 2005, The Grownup Noise has been celebrated for its playful and poignant brand of indie pop. Tasteful use of dynamics, varying instruments; including a lead cellist, and unusual covers, are just part of the Grownup Noise’s ever-evolving live production. All this, under the comfortable blanket of creative grooves and catchy melodies… With a true love for song, The Grownup Noise delivers melody and lyrics while conducting subtle experiments on groove and arrangement. And though musicianship is abundant, it never strays into the vein, but remains poignant to the song.

The Forms
www.myspace.com/theforms

The Forms are one of the most exciting, if not one of the best, acts in indie rock right now. Imagine, if you will, the emotional sweep of Sunny Day Real Estate with the tightrope math rock antics of Shellac and you might get an idea of what the Forms are bringing to the table….It is unbelievable how many musical ideas they get across, and how utterly affecting they can be, in a whisper under twenty minutes…Indie rock has become a stale affair of late, with lazy irony, ’80s throwback, and ’70s revival being the flavors of the day. Thus, it is that much more refreshing that although the Forms take their cues
from the explosive scene of the mid to late ’90s, they put in the work of deconstructing and carefully redefining it.-www.popmatters.com

Bronze Radio Return
www.bronzeradioreturn.com

“Bronze Radio Return’s rootsy music wouldn’t have been out of place 40 years ago- but, no, the Connecticut-based indie rock band is not stuck in the past. Instead, the group melds its appreciation of blues, folk, jazz, and rock into a fresh sound that has earned it an ever-growing fan base in New England and beyond.” www.phillyblurbs.com

Franz Nicolay
www.franznicolay.com

Days of wine and roses, full-throated songs and stories shamelessly strident, stentorian and more than a little sentimental….Franz Nicolay is that mustachioed man-about-town you’ve seen with The Hold Steady, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Anti-Social Music, Guignol, & more.
“Rich with old world influences while retaining a pop immediacy.” – Chromewaves
“There’s often an urgent electricity to Franz Nicolay’s music, as if he’s scribbling down observations just before, just after or sometimes even right in the midst of portentous events…Engaging as the music is, his vivid, empathetic storytelling is an even bigger draw. Taken together, they make these songs an inviting place in which to get lost.” – Listen Dammit
