Communion Oxford Launches on 10th October
Communion Oxford launches THIS SUNDAY!
*PETE ROE*
…Having upped sticks for London in 2008, Pete Roe very quickly he found himself playing piano for folk singer Laura Marling. Two years later and he’s
stepping into the limelight himself having been described by the NME
as ‘Jaw-dropping’. Pete’s tender vocals and easy storytelling style sitting atop nimble guitar lines have drawn comparisons with Bert Jansch and John Martyn. .’The Merry-Go-Round’, an EP reminiscent of Nick Drake’s
‘Pink Moon’, was released on Communion Records this summer.

*ANDREW DAVIE*
Raised on modern American greats such as Tom Waits, Daniel Johnston and Elliott Smith, Andrew Davie, is sure to be competing with more established chart behemoths before the year is out. The industries on both sides of the Atlantic are currently fighting tooth and nail for his signature and rightly so, combining a voice that sounds as tortured as it does delicate with a repertoire that most singer/songwriters would kill for even at this early stage, it seems to be less a case of “if” and more a case of “when”. Last seen in Oxford with the much missed and ever popular Cherbourg, Andrew’s return to The Cellar is not to be missed.

*ROZI PLAIN*
ROZI PLAIN was born Rosalind Leyden, in the leafy-greens of Winchester. Since moving to Bristol she’s been working on the ferries that bob in and out of the city, along the Avon, whilst creating her own beautifully intimate music that captures life slowly floating by. With her older brother Sam (aka Romanhead), and her pal Rachael Dadd, she is a founding member of the Cleaner Records collective – a loose assortment of singer-songwriters from the Bristol area. Having recently supported Devendra Banhart on his UK tour, things are looking bright for this lady and we are honoured to have her on the bill. Her album, “Inside Over Here”, is out now on Fence Records.

*SONNY LISTON* (artist in residence)
Oxford based Sonny Liston, formerly known as Dear Landlord, have gradually worked their way up the ranks to become one of the most exciting and popular bands the Oxford music scene has to offer. Regulars on the local gig circuit, they have supported the likes of Johnny Flynn and Jeremy Warmsley and their popularity with BBC’s Oxford Introducing’s show led to their appearance this summer at Cornbury festival. Returning with new material and new band members, we are delighted to have secured them as our artist in residence for October-December.
